Mostly what you have to do on wiring is run power to the motronic harness, and disconect the old harness. make sure the trigger wire to the relay is still hooked in, by using the green wire on the coil, all over again.

Everything you ever wanted to know about 16V swaps can be found here:

Considering you are on a budget and already have the GLI, I would stick with what you have. Use the CIS-E from the GLI and the GLI air/fuel intake on the pass side. Descriptions of how to mount the airbox and to re-route your fuel lines are in the link above. That will leave you with the wiring. Your GLI already has a knock sensor on it, just leave it there, you want to use it. The compression on the 16V is 10.8:1, you are in dangerous territory even with super unleaded without the knock sensor.

Follow the wiring diagrams in the link, it will show you how to connect the CIS-E wiring and knock sensor to your Rabbits exhisting wiring.

the stock CIS fuel pump in your rabbit is more then capable of the CIS-E system.

the stock bosch pump is capable of over 90psi
