DynoJetta's Rides

Post by DynoJetta »

So here's my '03 TDI Jetta GLS. Leather, moon roof, Monsoon Stereo, heated seats, 5-speed, etc, etc, etc.
Mods are: Campbell Performance Black Box, Manual boost controller, DG Racepipe, EGR cooler delete, TDI Frostheater, and Ventectomy.

Blue = Clogged intake, Red = Stock Baseline, Green = Campbell Performance Black Box

My other rides include a '69 Ford Bronco. 302, NP435 4-speed, etc, etc. (soon to have 5.0L in it)

It has a fiberglass hood on it now:

I used to have this '77 Ford F-150. 429 big block, automatic, 4" Skyjacker lift. Kids, and tight times forced me to sell it.

I have a '54 Willys Wagon that's in several pieces right now. Plans for it include dropping it on an early bronco frame and sticking a V-8 in it.

The wife drives an '08 Toyota Sienna

Nice man!
I love that Bronco and the '77, I really want to do a 5.0T swap into a 70's Ford XLT like Mikes someday.
I think color-matched wheels would look awesome on your Jetta!

Nice! I like the 77 - it looks a lot like my 75, but nicer. Too bad you had to sell it, but you at at least still have the Bronc and the Willys project.

Can you explain the DIY's on your Jetta?

I don't know about the rest of the VW engines, but the TDIs do not have any freeze plugs. Hence, nowhere to install an engine block heater. TDI's don't warm up very well idiling, and it takes about 2-3 miles of driving to start warming up. I wanted to install something so I could have heat right away. There's a company that sells a coolant heater (FrostHeater http://www.frostheater.com/frostheater.htm) but they want $113 for the kit. So I just went to Kamp Implement and purchased the same ZeroStart heater, some hose, and hose clamps and did my own kit. It plumbs into the oil cooler and does a pretty good job. It's fairly unnoticeable to the eye, which I like.

The only complaint I have is a random CEL. Because there are two temperature sensors, and the coolant heater seems to primarily heat the front part of the block, there's a difference in the temperatures at the sensors when you start the car. This throws a code, and a CEL. But I'll put up with it just so I don't freeze my butt off in the winter.

Here's the install guide I used: http://pics2.tdiclub.com/gwillie/zerost ... nstall.htm

The mirror heater indicator light is simply an LED that I put in parallel with the mirrors heater power. Located right behind the mirror, it let's me know that my mirror heaters are on allot better then looking at the position of the mirror switch. I hated driving around with my mirror heaters on all the time.
Image

I forgot to mention I put some tinted wide-angle mirrors on it also. When I was trying to pop of the mirror to get to the wiring I managed to crack my driver's side right down the middle :banghead: . As you can see, my new mirrors are starting to de-laminate. :\ I still like them though.

Here's a picture someone took of theirs . You can get a good idea of the difference from stock.

Yeah, mine has a switch right next to the driver's side door handle. The middle position is the "on" position for the heaters (easy to forget they're on). Having it on the Left or Right position turns them off. It looks similar to this one http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pag ... uctID=3103 except mine doesn't have the automatic folding mirror option. I've never even seen that option until now. Is there anyone out there with this? Seems like it would be convenient to have. I wonder if it would be a plug n go type of upgrade (time to do some searching!)

Did some searching...
Sounds like an expensive and labor intensive upgrade for something that most of us don't need in the US.
Here's a link to a thread talking about it: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.ph ... or+folding
