New Turn Key Motors

So I was looking online for a new motor for the bug. Anyone ever heard if GEX engines were good. I'm in the starting stage of lining up parts suppliers for it.

I'm going to go new and I'm going to go turn key. Any more ideas.

GEX is the shizz man!
You can't go wrong with them.
But you should really build a fun air cooled motor for it.
Buy a stroker motor from http://www.mamotorworks.com
It wouldn't un you much more then a stock motor and you would have twice the BHP!

Sorry, but GEX makes the biggest pos motors around. They are total shit and cannot build an engine. If you don't believe my look on thesamba.com about GEX, or read around about their feedback.

If you want a motor that will leak oil, and probably blow up on you, buy a GEX.

I'm probably going to lean toward Midamerica because I have heard so many good things. I thought about building it from scratch but I think I'm going to buy a hopped up turn key. I was looking at like a 1900 CC or a 2100. I'm not sure what else I have to do to it to get that bigger motor in. I have to convert it to 12 volt, beef up the original stock tranny. I'm just beginning with ideas now. Stoney how much do you think it would cost me to build one. Remember my mechanical skills are lacking to say the least. It might be cool to put a 2.0 out of a 914 in it too.

building one from scratch wouldnt be that bad, but there is ALOT of little things that must be done when building an AC motor. the case has to be machined to fit larger piston bores, they must be shimmed, very carefully assembled, as if it were made of glass, AC motors are a machinists nightmare, they HATE them and most refuse i know mine thought about a possible AC project but he didnt seem interested in the least however the parts to build up an AC motor are generally pretty cheap! good luck, do want to see that beetle come alive, and hope to see a build thread on it!

Thanks for the help guys. I need to talk to Brax to see what he has. There will be a build thread on this. I'll need as much help as I can get. I'm thinking of doing some work myself but buying a turnkey motor. It depends how much money I save/get. I think I'm going to keep it in storage one more winter and get it out next spring, the summer sort of got a way from me and I did not get any work on it as I had planned.

Do the transaxle at the same time, og ones dont like any power going through them

Yeah I will do that too. I'm getting excited, I might have a true build on my hands, but we'll see. For those of you who have built a hefty aircooled motor from the beginning, approximatley how much did it run you. I'm think a 1700-1900 type. I'm not looking for a race car. Can I build a motor for less than $3,000? Becaue I'm looking for the most cost effective way to do this, without taking short cuts.
