Snow Tires?

Post by Rennwagen1 »

Just wondering what your guys were running for snow tires in the winter. I have some Bridgestone Blizzaks for the Jetta currently, although I have run some Yokohama studless snows also with great results. I am running my Continental 4X4 Contacts on the Touareg, and she hauls ass in the snow!

I just came back from Seattle last night, and the only people that weren't freaking out were me and another guy in an R32 on snows, and of course the Audi guys, we had quite the little snowy pass cruise line going. I of course, had to stop a rest stop and turn the traction control off and do some donuts, in true Subaru WRX style.....no pics, but we had a blast!

im still running all-seasons... hah I cant decide if I want to fork out the extra bucks for some snows. I still have decent traction but not great. Last night I went out and did some sweet donuts at 1am. I had no idea ESP was so effective until I turned it off.

I doubt I spend more than 20% of the winter driving on snow, its mostly dry or wet pavement, so for me studs are out.
I have been really happy with the heavily siped tires like the old Arctic Alpins, or Dunlop Graspics. I currently have some Semperits, but I am not impressed with their snow grip, they are more of an all season although they are advertised as a snow tire. My next tires will probably be Michelin x-ice.

Those are supposed to be a pretty good tire from what I hear. My buddy that works at a Les Schwab here in town has them on his WRX. If in doubt, go with what the tires guys go with.....to a certain extent.

Nokian makes some pretty gnarly mountain bike tires. I've never experienced the car tires though. From what I hear they come highly recommended.
