Mk1/Fox intake manifolds??

Post by Rennwagen1 »

I have heard that certain Fox intake manifolds flow better than the standard MK1 manifolds? ANybody hear anything about this? Any truth to it? I heard that the fox manifold and a stock throttle body will flow better than a stock manifold and a 16V throttle body. I got one at the junkyard on saturday and was just wondering if there was as specific part number for it. It look slike if is a much larger manifold and the runners are smoother. The part number off the fox manifolds I found were;

049 133 223C
828 133 223A
049 133 223M/N
026 133 223A

I think the gains might come from a different design due to the fact the fox motor is traditionally mounted and not transverse like the rabbits.

Any ideas?

WEll I have found about 5 of them, and they are all different, so let me know which one you find. and which stock intake you compare it to.

Keep in mind, we are working with 90 hp from the factory here, so any improvement in flow will help.

Well I ported out the throttle body flange and the intake runners last night and got a bit of polishing done, but not all. Compared to the stock GTi mani, it looks like the primary plenum is bigger, and the runners are bigger, and a bit longer.....so this may work out. Or it may suck, but with a free mani and my own time, it didn't really cost me anything. I will post pics of the two side by side when I get them all ready for the swap.

Also added a oilpan gasket/windage tray monday night also, and replaced front wheel bearings. I get a lot done when the wife is out of towm...... :lol:

I've heard that the intake manifold is a bigger restriction than the head on the early 8V motors. Like you said, it can't hurt! :wink:

Yeah, and I am going to polish the whole thing out (it is going to take a while) but in the end, I will make sure that it flows better. I already know that the primary plenum is larger, for sure. and the runners look a bit bigger, but the mic will be the judge of that.
