hmmm...ok well they were talking about changing all the sprokets and what not is that needed or what?

Nah, sprockets are not needed 99% of the time, just tensioners, chains, guides, and seals.

ok then thats not bad. and i have also been being told that this is a prime time to do a new clutch

Uh, why would this be a good time to do the clutch? Maybe I am missing something, but I don't think you need to drop the trans to change the timing chains. But maybe the 98s are different from my 97, hehe
Maybe i should think about doing mine also. We could be like the Audi guys and get all the Vrs together and change timing chains as a group! I have 130K+ on mine, think it is time?
We could have Spencer come up and teach class!

Yes you do. Transmission has to come out. On every VR6, the trans has to come out since the chains are on the flywheel side of the engine.
130K is well past time. They should be done every 100k for the old style guides. I did mine at 80K, and they were WAY past due.

well im shure mine have never been changed so 163k is probably way past due.
ok spence list me the parts i need for the timing chains, seals, and what ever else i need including the clutch stuff also

Here is what I would get. Plus Oil, Coolant, and transmission oil.
You could even go all out and replace all the plastic coolant parts(I would).

huh, for some reason I thought that the chains were on the the belt side. I must be confused. then I would probably change the clutch then if it was suspect. And Brandon, unless your car was totally neglected, I bet someone has had them changed before the 163K mark.

Yah, best to pull the valve cover and inspect them.
