My bad, got it mixed up lol, the passats have the option of the 2.0L TDI, while the 2004+ others have the better PD engine. Autos also have a larger injection pump.

Yes, the PD (Pumpe-Düse) has the same displacement as the previous ALH engines. ALH's use an external injector pump that runs off the timing belt. With PD's the injector pump is incorporated in each injector and is actuated by the cam shaft. ALH's do get a little better mileage but both motors can make equal power (although most say it will take a little more money on the PD).

thanks for that. Only bad thing i've read about the PD's is the cam lobe failure.
