Re: 68 CAL LOOK Bug Project
It's gonna be a while until I am completely settled in. right now, almost everything is in storage. So, until I get a garage to work in, there it will stay.

Re: 68 CAL LOOK Bug Project
So I broke down and got a big storage unit for the bug and all my tools. Spent the morning yesterday moving it all off the trailer and into the unit. Next off is cleaning up the engine case to ship to a friend toi have align bored and thrust cut. Anyhow, here's a picture of the "shop."

That's what I have been building projects in for years now. It gets a little warm late in the day. But as long as you have power you should be fine.

Re: 68 CAL LOOK Bug Project
Oh and by the way I'm building a 69 Beetle in my shop (aka storage shed). So a build is possible. I hope to have it running in a couple of weeks. What are you planing for a motor? Something hi performance or something to cruise in? Good luck with your build.

Re: 68 CAL LOOK Bug Project
Engine is gonna be the same as what came out of her. 1776 with a scat c45 cam(same as an engle w120), scat counterweighted forged 69mm crank, scat 12lb lightened flywheel, the o.e. 043 heads that came with the engine, stock rockers with swivel foot adjusters, and dual weber 40's(eventually). Compression ratio will be around 9.5-10.5:1. So this baby, even though it's low, it's gonna haul ass. Only thing I really need to make it a working shop is a portable generator. That way I can run my parts cleaner, lights, and air compressor.

Re: 68 CAL LOOK Bug Project
Wooohoo!!! Progress to report. Got the case back from my buddy about a month ago but have yet to do anything with that. For now I am busy chugging along on some bodywork. Mainly the driver's and passenger's doors. I wanna say it took me about 3 weeks off and on on the drivers door to get it to where I really liked it. It was the door with a bit more work needed then the other. So it is now finished, well mostly. It's in rattle can primer until I can get my compressor working again and tarp the walls and floor of the "garage" so I can shoot some automotive primer on it. As for the passenger door, it appeared to need less work so I hit the major dings and then put a layer of filler over the entire door. Boy howdy was it a mess. Barely could tell that there were that many dings in the thing. Oh well, it's now done and in rattle can primer also. Next up is the hood as I'm going to cut out and fill in where the fresh air vent is. Cleaner look and no water entering my trunck. Decklid after that as I am going to shave in the license plate light holder but leave the vw script as i just want it to be a little different. Front fenders i am shaving in the turn signal holes and that should be the only bodywork there and the rears are fiberglass so npo bodywork is needed.
Anyhow, a few pictures for y'all so you get an idea of how insanely perfectionistic I am being.
