My Valver is in boxes........ Its either got to be that, around the plug wire or a crank position sensor that your motor does not have.

It cannot be the impulse sensor! I just called Volkswagen missoula and they said the same thing... Impulse sensor!

The wires going to the impulse sensor are black, green, and red.

I have four wires in question:

Black= ground obviously
White=produces 12v and spliced into the ISV
Brown=produces 8v and was grounded to the valve cover
Brown/yellow=produces 12v, was cut and grounded to the valve cover

Alright, I have solved something… Thanks for putting up with the issue and trying to help. In all the confusion I figured out that although my GLI is a 1990, the wiring is for a 1991-1992 GLI.

Their is an intermittent connection to the charcoal canister valve. I am thinking that is were my idle issue is coming from.

Ah! Very good. I was starting to wonder.......... What are the Idle Issues anyways?

It will idle great at first start up for about a minute, then the rpm's drop and it starts to stall, but the rpm's jump back up to 1400 and it continues to do this, but eventually it just stalls and quits completely.

sounds just like my 16v b3. I replaced pretty much all the vacuum line and that solved my problem.

Just replaced all of the vacuum lines and the issue is the same.

Also replaced the ISV and the new one does not vibrate or hum. Not sure why it doesn't since it is receiving 12v.

My guess would be a coolant temp sensor.
