Holy shit, I found the problem. I had a check valve banjo bolt in the fuel distributor inlet. Swapped it for a regular banjo and it runs great, even took a short spin around the block. Needs a valve adjustment something awful, but it revs great!
Makes sense that it was losing fuel pressure after the fuel distributor - it would run at idle but as soon as the system pressure went up the check valve would begin to close up and pressure would skyrocket and the pump would bind up and not flow. Must have gotten a banjo mix up along the way.
