Any idea how much the OEM core supports run? I was originally going to order one from Black Forest Industries.

Whats the best way to remove the current core without damaging the frame supports where the new one will mount?

Thanks!

cut out the large center section, and then do the sides, the hardest part was that larg weld, matt the grinder god cut all around it then worked on little parts. i used a tiger disk to smooth out the weld after the core was gone. just hack at it! theres no wrong way unless you go straight for the chassis leg

FYI aftermarket core supports fit just fine. they are just prone to crack under stress. problem could be fixed with a front core support bar

So here is what I discovered on the passenger side. Obviously it had been hit on this corner and they had fixed it. Problem is when they fixed it they welded a bunch of stuff back on with some major welds instead of tack or spot welds. This literally made it a bitch to remove the core support from the passenger side. Thank God for the sawzall!!!
This next picture you can see how big the "spot/glob" welds they did are. They were literally the size of a dime.

At first I tried to just grind them off with a angle grinder but no suck luck....
Image

I was literally peeling away metal as I went! lol

I finally just went at it with the sawzall and figured i'd clean up the rest once I got the big chunk outta the way....
Image

Finally making some real progress. Still need to figure out how to cut off the excess core part still welded to the front passenger side though.....

The battery tray I swear was the only thing rusty really on this teardown so far so I am excited about that!!! Battery will be relocated to the back anyways so later this week i'll remove the rusty battery tray

What are you going to do with the engine while it's out?
