That's a lot of driving for a puppy, but I bet is was worth it in the end. No snow out here just yet, only in the mountains, but the passes are clear.

Anyway, I got the rabbit in the bay for about half a day on thursday. Got it to turn over, but not fire, but I wasn't expecting it to fire yet anyway. Stole some brackets off my parts car and painted 'em up and mounted your plug wire rack up the way it is supposed to be. Also cleaned and painted the aux air reg brakcet.(I know these are not on the way to making it run, but I needed something to do while I studied wiring schematics. And it looks a lot better anyway, and hey! It was free!!) Mounted up that started solenoid back to where it went. I am still not sure if it is needed, but I figured that the car had run with it before, so I might as well use it for now. I believe that at some point it will be eliminated, as it is a Ford part, and probablynot VW OEM. I did some seroius looking at the fuse box mess, and I think we may end up with a Painless Wiring solution. I have installed them in rabbits before, and it may be the way to go. I will have to see what options are out there and we will go from there. Well, that is the scoop for now. Laters!!

Thankfully the puppy is a good traveller, put her through another 4 hour trip this weekend.

I had a lot of similar days in the shop. Study the wiring, make some changes, see what worked and didn't. Do something else while pondering the changes.

It was running and driving with the wiring as is when I got the car on the stock 1.6.

also looks like you might not be getting any fuel pressure. here in this pic you are lacking a pump relay.

oh and imho i think you should just fix the original wiring. i've personally been thru 4 basic electical systems. once they work they will work for ever. its a very well designed system.

i've had to do everything from replace half the harness to replacing fuze boxes.

my gold scirocco had eletrical issues that prevented it from running when i got it, i spent an hour looking at it and scratching my head, found the issue to be a burnt fuze box. tossed in my spare and had it running in 10 minutes, then drove it 100 miles home and havnt had an issue since.

Fuel pump was/is hard wired in.....


Some good points about the harness. IMO the exhisting harness is so hacked it will have to be replaced at some point. I think it "could" be made to work. But, at some point it makes more sense to start fresh than to keep working with the exhisting harness or to try and find another 30 year old harness to use.

If anyone has a clean, unhacked original harness I would be interested though.

Speakin of wiring and not to change to subject. Do any of you guys know where i could get a corrado g60 engine management wiring harness? :idea:
