16v I believe

I was thinking cam tensioner, but I can't remember if they even have a tensioner. Leave it to VW to design such a complex head in the early 90's. Speaking of which Trev I have two 16v parts heads in my garage - actually one may be just fine and need some inspection, as I bought it for the Passat before it blew chow. If you need anything you can't get from the Dub ranch let me know.

i can almost guarantee you got a bad lifter, they tap terrible when they go, get a whole new set, and then listen to that valvetrain quiet right up.

Yep, its the 9a 2.0. I guess I'll start with the lifters (and maybe a set of euro cams). It does however still run great. I might even say it sounds like a light knock/tap.

No to the rod please. It sounds like it is coming from the upper half.

I went slow because the VR sucks the gas with oversized studded tires.

Okay, that "sounds" better. Don't toy with my emotions dammit! It is still about $160 for a set of lifters.
