Cluster lamp is actually an important part of the circuit providing a higher resistance path for the exciter on some cars.

Right on, Benno Jumped the exciter wire this morning and the alt. kicked on. Not sure why it's intermittent , but i do know that the batt. warning light on the cluster does not work… wonder if this could explain why the temp gauge doesn't work either, ha, the temp gauge will work the key in accessory and not when the ignition is on.

Glad the alt is working for you. Your cluster might be shot, though. I have an extra one hangin out if you wanna try it.

It's probably shot, yes. But i'm not worried about the cluster right now. I've got a couple switches I want to install as a bandaid for now. Just going to give the exciter wire it's own 12v circuit and route it through a led switch. This way i don't have to pop the hood and jump the wire every time I start my car to leave somewhere. Cheap and easy temporary fix.

Good 'ol electrical issues eh?! Awhile ago I noticed my thermo fans were staying on… permanently. Well solved that with a switch; however, not sure why it was staying on all the time and was thinking maybe it was the thermo switch, any ideas?

Fan switch in the radiator most likely. plugs into the side. So, I don't know how your jetta is coming along, but my b3 16v passat is pissing me off. I'm going digifant II I would advise you do the same.

I prefer electronic fuel injection over mechanical personally.

I meant this question for mr. ghetto As for you, your harness is so screwed up you may as well go with a full digi set up. there are a few digi cars in helena. Where are you located?

I do have the toss tech 2x2 adapter. You can get the same info with test light and jumper wire though. There are only a few codes it'll throw. I think the instructions are in a2resource. Connectors should be under shift boot.

like ghetto said you can flash codes with the technique of jumping the terminals under the shifter boot.
Since going through my entire harness and re-terminating many of the ends at the connector the issue persists. I'm almost certain that i need an idle switch to solve the problem.

Oh and i live in Kalispell… Had a couple mk2's here last time i checked but that was a year ago.
