Big PO wiring hack found last night, which leads to a minor setback...here's the story:
Picked up a battery, and got power to the car. I usually begin going through electrical, starting with lights and cluster, stalk etc. from the drivers seat.
Started with the cluster - everything seems OK, but no back lighting, whatever. Found the proper connectors and plugged in the rear defrost, fogs, and hazard switches. Blinkers had a couple of issues, but I was able to get blinkers/hazards working:
Next up, lets get parking lights, license plate light, and headlights going. Well this is interesting...:
No problem, I can fix that. Soldered all wires back in the connectors, and still got nothing. Broke out the multi-meter, and found only 12V to the black/yellow, nothing anywhere else, including no 12V on the red.
Traced it upstream to the fuse block and found bad wiring:
Looks like it had been shorted and melted the main wiring connector and wire. That needs to come out so I can repair - I attempted to pull out the connector from the fuse bock - there's a release slide, then you can pull the tab and connector out. I did that, but the connector would not come out of the block...WTF?
It's the blue connector, just to the left of the open space:
Whatever I tried, it still would not come out, until eventually I pried hard enough and it popped out. The connector is burnt and toast. I need a new harness, or at very least I need a connector:
BIG problem - when I pulled out the connector, I found the termination had been super glued to the pin, and the pin has broken and pulled out of the fuse block. That explains why I couldn't pull out the connector. Hard to see here, but that's a problem:
So now, I need a new CE2 fuse block from another MKII.
