Tie Rod/ Second opinion

Me thinks my front left tie rod is kaput. I'd like to have a second opinion from one of y'all at the meet on Sunday if possible.
Tie rods aren't really a DIY thing are they? From what I have seen at Audi some involved a torch and lots of swearing. If they are not to bad I'd like to do it myself and then swing it by some place to get it aligned to save some money.

The easiest way to do it, it to get the whole tie rod if you can, not just the end link. Then you remove the old one(this is where the swearing might come in)check the amount of threads you have exposed, match the two tie rods exactly, and re-install. You might get it closer than you think!

I replaced both of mine in about 45 min, and Aeron is right. If you pay careful attention to where the orginal one is, then you might get by without realigning it. You can do it Wade.

I thought I measured mine right... turned out I didnt. But then again they were different ends.

Well, look at it this way. If you have someone install them, they'll need aligned anyway, so if you do it and get an alignment, you still come out a head.

Hey Wade, if your interested I have some alignment stuff. I have a homemade strings set-up that works pretty good for adjusting toe. Although, since your camber is not adjustable, and you are only messing with the front, dialing in the toe is pretty easy.
Also, if your going to replace one tie-rod, I would suggest doing both.
