Front Clip Removal?

Hello all... been stripping the Caddy and would like to remove the front Clip to ease fitting the VR6... I can see most of the spot welds to remove etc... and would like not to have to remove the fenders.
Anybody done this or is it even possible to remove the front clip in one clean piece?

g-laden rocco build shows one way

Just stummbled across the g-laden rocco build and saw lots of great pics of some serious cutting & grinding to remove front end/clip for replacement. Looks like I may have to remove the fenders if I want to get it out whole and clean for refit... ???

It's pretty easy! Ask kompressorgolf. I'm sure he'd even be willing to come show you.

you will need a sop weld drill bit and lots of patience. when it comes to the big welds on the chassis legs a grinder with thin cut disk is best, but mine was cut apart and nothing was saved, will be a little more involved to save it. and fenders must come off  good to see ya back jim!

I am sorry to tell you this, but as simple as it may be to cut it out. Don't do it just to put in a motor. You will have to brace the front end, so there isn't any movement while it is out, and that may get in the way even more than the core support. With the bolt in ones, it isn't that big of a deal, bolts go in the same holes, but welded ones... you are making more work than nessecary.

Thanks for the last two posts on this topic... I think I got enough of an understanding now to figure out the best route. I will revisit this in the build thread that I plan to start in ~ two weeks... got 3 hours in tonight preping the Jetta... can't stay away from that VR6 subframe set-up. It is so cool and motivating to work on... but, the teardown of the Caddy must become the focus. Thanks for the input thetwodubheads it will help with piecing this together... Later
