just ordered the Sumpsaver skid plate from mason-tech.com Anyone ever put one of these on? My old roommate had the diesel geek skid plate on his R32 but I didn't put it on either. Thanks for any help.

Pretty common thing to do on a MKIII or MKIV if you are lowered. It saves an oil pan (and more) from being destroyed. I don't know about the mason-tech, but the DG has like 5 bolts and is easy to take on/off, and I would assume they are close to the same thing. You'll need it in the winter - I have come close to ripping holes in my oil pan with some of the roads in Laurel.

They are getting more popular. You can jack up the R32 any where on the skid plate. They are tough! The mason tech is very similar but, you have to drill 2 holes. I don't think it will be tough. Worth it for a little piece of mind.

Yea, if I keep the pickle and rebuild it I will definetly be getting a skid plate. DG seems to be the one to use for 12v's. I have already lost an oil pan to an ice chunk

Huh. I hate taking off the belly pan for oil changes...I can't imagine pulling off an entire skidplate. I guess I'm getting old. Being that low doesn't appeal to me much anymore

You know I will Grant. As for the oil changes the DG ones have a hole you cut/punch out. I'm not so sure on the Mason tech, but they make a sucker that sucks the oil out of the dip stick tube. I run Amsoil, so I only change it once a year or 20,000. The rest of the time you change the filter and top it off.

I was under there today and noticed too many dings.
