I Replaced the front wheel bearings in my MK1 GTi Mon/Tues. What a world of difference! I guess a year and a half of autocrossing on them may have worn them out! Now it is actually quiet (well sortof) when I drive down the road. I also dropped the oil pan and really gave it an oil change. Nothing wrong with it, but I decided to install my windage tray/oil pan gasket that I have had for a while now. maybe it will make a difference....who knows? When dealing with 90 hp, you take what you can get! Also started porting and polishing a MK1 Fox intake manifold for the GTi, we'll see what happens with that!

I've been seeing more about replacing MKIV wheel bearings on the vortex and it looks fairly easy with the right tools. Is there a recommendation on when to have them replaced? I have 105K, but everything seems fine.

until you start to hear some groaning when you turn, you are probably ok. If you hear a graoning when you turn left, your right bearing is bad, when you turn right, your left is bad. If you hear it when you are going straight, it is one or the other or both. I have no idea how hard the Mk4 ones are to change. I have 130k on my Jetta and have only replaced one bearing total. Your bentley will be your bible.....
