If you're not familiar with "Marks" they stand for different body style runs.
For example:
MK1 - 1975 to 1984
MK2 - 1985 to 1992
MK3 - 1993 to 1999
MK4 - 1999 to 2004
MK5 - 2005 to Present
My guess when you say Golf GTI is a MK2?

me and a couple friends will have 2 mk1's this sun both need body work and have no engines or trannys.
