Got bored and documented some installs I did for Helena PD and Gallatin County.

First up is Helena PD build.

Image

Beginning the trunk install. Top Left is the Stobe Box power supply, below it is the Siren and Lightbar Controller, Camera Brain, Mobile Data Terminal Modem.

Image

Siren box medusa of wires.

Image

Running some wires forward and backwards. Powers, brain cables, antennas, gps, etc, etc.

Image

Half the wiring done =/

Image

Lightbar mocked up, hole sawed for power and signal cables, loomed/grommet/ prepared for silicon

Image

Blurry picture of console installed with wires run up from underneath the carpet. MDT [Computer] installed on front of console.

Image

Camera headunit "wings" attached to visor and camera/beltpack mounted.

Image

Trunk wired and loomed.

Image

Lightbar, Modem antenna, and Radio antenna installed.

Image

Console installed with MDT, Sirenbox controller, and 12v plugs installed. Above is the camera control unit with viewer, controls, and front and rear view camera.

Image

Another view, Radio on dash. [Don't ask me why they want it there. Just asking for a 20 pound radio to the face during an accident.]

Gallatin County Sheriff Build.

I don't have any progress shots but I do have the finished shots.

Image

Interior shot. MDT mounted on the console. In the console is the backup radio, the sirenbox/lightbar controller, and front powers and grounds. On the dash on the left is the radar display, the unit is hidden in dash. Next to the radar is the main radio. Above barely seen is the camera control unit and camera.

Image

Cage with 870 magnum mount on top, Beltpack/personal audio recorder charger mounted in the channel between the seats, and the primary radio speaker on the top right near the drivers head. Secondary radio speaker behind the passenger seat headrest.

Image

Shot of the MDT [computer] and the camera system. Also above the mirror are secondary red and blue flashers [never can have enough blinky lights =p]

Image

Drivers position view. Blinkly lights, dials, and buttons galore.

Image

Rear view. MDT antenna and Secondary radio antenna on the trunk. Primary on the roof. Whelen light bar on the roof with Traffic Advisor installed in the rear. [Acts like and arrows stick, can direct traffic left, right, and outwards].

Image

Shot of the secondary rear red and blue flashers as well as the rear Radar antenna.

Image

Primary radio installed in plexy aluminum box to prevent bashing.

Image

Tiny space on the shelf where we can install most brain/vault units. This was one of the most jam packed installs I have ever done but I feel it turned out very well as far as wiring went. The large silver box is an old school camera system. Its a steel case covering a torn apart vhs player/recorder wired to a basic computer. It weighs nearly 50 pounds...not fun to fidget with in small spaces. Directly to its left oriented vertically is the Secondary radio.

Image

Tray pulled out view. You can see the Camera Vault dominates the space. Next to it is the Secondary radio. Behind the secondary radio is the strobe box power supply. Next to the strobe box is the Sirenbox/Lighbar controls. This was the biggest pita to wire, keep clean looking, easy to work on, and snag free. Ford also likes to try to help by including a MASSIVE amount of wires that are run forward and back in the chassis that terminate in the trunk on that tray and in the passenger compartment. The amount of wires I ran to that small space is in the area of 100 ranging from 2 gauge brain cables to 20 gauge lightbar signal wires, not including the bloated Ford harnesses that are bolted to that tray. A hobby of computers helps my OCD for clean wiring [I'm sure spencer knows what I am talking about].

Image

Another closeup view.

Image

That is a photo of all of the wires I ran to the back. Wish I would have put an object in for reference but it is a huge amount of loom and wires. Barely on the photo in the lower corner is a tiny portion of the ford harness that runs on the driver side. I like to run my wires as far away from the ford interference ridden wires.

@ Spence - Yea I should be going to YNP. I don't know if das pikl will be making it or not yet. I was trying to get in contact with Ryan to see if I could ride with him again but haven't been able to get a hold of him.

Okay wade, think about how much time you have into this car, and then think about how fast the cops are going to smash them into something. Kinda sucks, huh?

Yea...They break shit quite often. Gallatin County just bought 4 MDT [computers] from the Highway Patrol. All of the monitors had their mounting screws still installed into the back of the monitor. They had the great idea of stacking all 4 monitors on top of eachother. During the trip from helena to here they managed to total 3 of the monitors touch screen surfaces because they left the screws on them and they scratched the shit out of the screens. 6 thousand dollar oops.

:retard:

They don't crash them too much but they do get into some gnarly accidents when they do. If you ever wander by a sheriff car look underneath the drivers side mirror. If they have been in an accident they will have some stickers, almost like fighter pilot kill stickers signifying what they hit. One of the west yellow stone guys hit a buffalo at night, totaled his front end, and while waiting for backup was run into from behind by a drunk driver. Hes got some creative stickers on his rig. :D
