Was looking through the Billings paper here at work and there is an add in the classifieds for an 82 diesel rabbit for $900. Anyone in Billings willing to take a look at it for me? I might have to try to scrounge the cash together if it's a good deal. It's in the 7170 "Autos for Sale" section. Might be my chance to get a VW finally!

A little update on this, I just called them and they still have it! Here's the details..

82 Rabbit Diesel, 4 spd, 86,000 miles, one owner. Interior needs some stuff, it has a sagging headliner, holes and rips in the seats. Body is good though they said. Oh, also they've had quite a bit of interest.

Sounds too good to be true considering the prices I've seen on ebay for these, and I'm not even a big Mk1 fan lmao! I want.

Was that in the 50's? Didn't know they made them then.

RUST: base of the A pillars, tops of fenders inner fenders, in the rain tray (on the sides) behind the strut towers, tops of the strut towers, inner fenders behind core support, rockers, look long and hard where the floor pans meet the rockers, people fuck up the jack points and fold them over and they like to hold water that way. rear arces in front of the tire under the rock guard, inner rear wheel wells, and were the wheel well meets the rear apron. open the hatch check the area where the hatch bolts to the unibody. if the carpets are loose, lift them up check the floors. most importantly, this one is a PITA but crawl up under the dash, with a flashlight, look above the fuse box where the windshield sits in the channel, they rust out there and drip water all over the fuse box giving you some funny electrical gremlins. also check the front frame horns (where the A-arms bolt to the unibody,

thats it really, if it runs, and drives decent nothing is "clunky" blown suspension/strut mounts. check all electrics, if its good you should be fine  and MORE OLD SCHOOL!

also make sure the doors arent sagging, open the doors and lift gently on them watch the area where they bolt on, it should NOT flex. ask me how i know.
