Okay so my check engine light came on this morning and these were what showed up when i scanned it after work....
16684- Random Misfire
16685- Random Misfire on cyl. 1
16686- Random Misfire on Cyl. 2
17545- System too rich?
17705- Pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve
What should i do to fix these things? i have a feeling they are all being caused by the same fuel problem somewhere but could use some help!
Thanks, cole.
(It was not scanned with a VAG-COM, just the scanner we have at Tire-Rama)

okay, but since i cleared out the codes to get the light off will they still show up with the VAG-COM or will i have to wait for the light to come on again?

I would venture a guess that your misfires are already back. But, yes, technically since you cleared the codes - you are going to have to wait until they come back for vag com to pick them up. But still you would benefit from
scanning your car with the proper tool.

Okay thanks.

I drove the car today about sixty miles total and the light stayed off for now but im expecting it to come back up. are these codes something that i need to be really super concerned about or are they not so bad

? either way i want to get it fixed ASAP.

From what I understand, your check engine light will come on when a fault occurs. If you clear the codes, and the light doesn't come back right away, then it is an intermittent fault code. If it comes back right away, then whatever is causing the fault is still present and needs to be addressed. I've heard that the only time that you have to worry about
not running your car when the check engine light is on, is if it is flashing. The only time I have had that happen is when I tried the 5th brake light mod and blew my taillights and fuses. I don't think VW wants you running your car if you don't have any brake lights.
I have 111K miles on my car, and I have probably had a check engine light for 100K of it!

Being a diesel, whenever a glow plug goes bad, I get a CEL. And now I have a faulty coolant sensor and no more EGR.
I second the "use the VAG-COM" advice that everyone else is saying. Then you'll be certain of what you're dealing with.

DynoJetta is correct. Those codes could be stored from the PO, and you just got the car correct? So it's OK that you cleared them and I would deal with them when or if they come back.
Using Vag-Com or a generic OBDII reader doesn't really matter, because the codes can be cross-referenced. But there are specific VAG codes and info that can give more info that the OBD code. Vag-Com will give you info pertaining to whether it is intermittent or not etc.
17545- System too rich - this could be a bad O2, or bad/dirty MAF, or it may clear and not come back.
17705- Pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve - you have (or had) a hose blown off somewhere, possibly on your DV or your DV is bad - diaphragm is torn.
Which TR do you work at?

Well, sweet. I work downtown too just over next to the Rex, so if I can find some time this week I think I can swing by. Do you get breaks or anything like that?
