so this summer i went to helena with my gutted 67 beetle runnin slicks and my mild 1835 street motor. needless to say there was some snickering and around the pits and what not . my first race i get paired up against an early 80's firebird. i pulled up to the line withut a burn out. i figured i had enough traction. the light went green and wouldnt you know it i launch hard with the wheels off the ground and pulled hard on the firebird running a 10.3 in the 1/8th at about 60 mph .... i think. the firebird ran a 12.5 and that was the first and last time he raced that day.... so a few months later i hear about a guy whos looking fot the "beetle guy" for a re-match and how he put a 400 into his car to hopefully blow me away next year. I gladly took the unofficial challenge and that got me thinking. if he can go bigger so can I, so i came to the conclusion i would build a turboed beetle motor.

Im going to be buildng a kompressed 2276
82mm forged 4140 cromo empi crank
94mm mhale pistons
forged chromoly balanced rods
special turbo grind cam with straight cut gears
lightened lifters
manton cromo pushrods
cb 044 heads 42mm intakes and 37.5 exhaust
stock end castings will be ported
custom intake ducting
custom 1.5 inch header
500cfm holley 4bbl carb converted for ALCOHOL! yes i will be running this car on alcohol.
last but not least is the free turbo my buddy brad lippel acquired from a dodge cummins turbo diesel.
this set up will be very home cooked and probably slight unsightly, but it should be pushing around 275 hp

sorry no pictures yet. disapointing i know but hopefully i can get started on the short block in the next few days.

thanks ive been slowly gathering parts all thats left is the pistons and cylinders and the heads. hopefully after taxes i can get both. then all it will be is lots of custom fabbing of the intake ducting and exhaust system. ill start getting it together when i get my main bearings back. im having a groove machined in the center for better oil suply. im trying to makethis thing as reliable as possible haha.

i could.... for 1200 bucks. im just going t run a stock clutch in it so instead of locking up on the line it slips a little. i had a stock clutch in it at helena and it held up fine. i cheaped out for a spool and welded my spider gears together haha. poor man spool.
