Project e28

Some of you got to see this lil' 5er this past weekend. And as such, I now have added to the list of things that need to be done to it.

But first, some eye candy:

The list is on-going, but here's what I've compiled thus far:

Exterior
- front and rear bumper lipo
- pop out the dent on the passenger side
- new door handles on the passenger side (they're currently missing).
- replace and remount both fog lights
- turn signal lens on the front needs to be replaced
- Bumper trim needs a heat gun to lay back down
- bulb socket in the rear tail light needs to be replaced
- new windshield with new gasket; there's some serious wind noise above about 60mph
- wax and serious buff
- new headlights (HID?)
- Remove and reset the front air dam.
- Driver's side view mirror is loose; need to tighten that up.
- Washer fluid nozzles are clogged or the pump is about done; need address that.
- New wipers
- Rain-x all windows
- Replace both headlight grilles

Interior
- floor mats needed
- front passenger door handle latch needs to be replaced
- the car came with a new dash - so I need to swap that out. That will probably come when I replace the windshield.
- Door handle trim
- Trunk gasket; it's been ordered, just needs to be installed.
- a few of the illuminated switches need to be replaced
- a new rear seat cushion needs to be sourced, covered or have new leather installed.
- the stereo is shameful right now. New speakers all around are a must.

Engine
- A new coolant line from the radiator to the expansion tank
- overflow tube off of the expansion tank is needed
- Oil and filter change is due
- A small weep has developed on the passenger side of the radiator that needs to be sealed
- Currently, there's a cone filter on there in place of the stock intake. The intake tube has a leak or two, so that will need to be replaced.

Driveline & chassis
- Tires. Needs new rubber all around. (Someone buy my snow tires!)
- I'm not sure I'm sold on the 17 e46 M3 reps as they come with spacers. I'd like to find some original offset wheels.
- If I do keep the wheels, I need new center caps.
- There's some rattling and low frequency noise coming from the right rear wheel area. Probably new bushings?
- On hard shifts form 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, there's a loud clunk from the rear. This is either driveline bushings or a u-joint. If it's the LSD, that's getting some Red Line Shockproof Heavy.
- Right turn-in is a bit jumpy. This probably means new bushings up front, as well.
- Suspension is bouncy. New springs and shocks are needed. I'll probably lower it an inch.
- The shifter is SUPER sloppy. So I'm thinking an OEM short-shift kit with new bushings and splits.


Damn ... that's quite the list! Clearly, I'll need some guidance on some of this. So if any of you want to wrench with with me, I'll buy the beer! :unibrow:

I will always have a soft spot for the old school Bimmer, my first car was a 1973 BMW Bavaria, and the a 1976 2002, and then I got into the dubs, and the rest is history....

Ugh ... a 2002!? :nod: Hawtness.

Yah, I think I have the lady friend turned on to a Jetta or Passat. But yah, the old Bimmers are pretty cool in their own right.

Yup, my '02 was the hotness. It is what got me into autocrossing. Had E30 325 wheels, weber carb, ansa exhaust, and some sort of lowering springs. It was loud as hell, and a hoot to drive. I might have to scan a pic(sold it before the advent of digi cams) and post it up here, just for you! My Bavaria was the shit also.

With this off-again, on-again cold weather, I've made a bit of headway with the e28.

I replaced the coolant overflow tank. The same goes with the attached hose.

Both the intake bellow and elbow were badly cracked. Replaced those. Though the cone filter that came with the car is still on there. When replacing the below, I also noticed that breather valve was missing, so that's been replaced, along with the associated vacuum line.

The busted interior door latch on the passenger front door has been replaced. I still need to push out the dent in the door from the inside. ::cough:: KompressorGolf ::cough, cough::
I also managed to replace the outer latch, as well.

The wheels and spacers are sold. I found a pair of 17 inch Sport Editions to replace those e46 M3 knock-offs until I cna find a suitable pair of mesh style 16 inch OEM or BBS wheels. Still need tires, though ...

I about have the front spoiler pulled off to reseat it and fix the brackets. Man, is that a PITA!

The front grilles are also almost off and about to be replaced.

I also hauled off an bought some stainless steel brake lines for, well ... a steal! So those will go on this week, I suspect. Same goes for a new pair of rear rotors.

It never ends, does it? ;)
