Big Sky Euro

Hi guys, so here's what I found for a second daily. Most of you know from my FB post, but some of you (Aeron) still live in 1996 (not that there is anything wrong with that) so I will post up some pics and progress so far. It's nothing too pretty or special and it needs some work, but I got a killer deal on it. Thanks again to Jon for the help.

The good:
VR6
GLX trim
Jetta (4 doors)
5 Speed
Alaska Green
New tires

The bad:
Toasty motor; needs replaced/rebuilt
Interior bits need replaced
Paint and minor bodywork needed

So, here's the damage:





















After thinking about it a bit, I am going to look around for a long block to replace it with. If I can't find anything, then I will pull and rebuild. Since it's just going to be a second daily driver, I don't need to bore it or build it up.

Any reason why a '97 long block would not bolt up to a '00? Trans bolt pattern the same? Can I use the '00 intake and runners?

It should bolt up just fine.

I understand that it should bolt up too, but I am hearing on the vortex that there may or may not be engine mount holes on the passengers side block that would make it not compatible with the MKIV. Anyone care to look on their block to see if they can spot some bolt holes?

Jurgy, it's a 12V. And I am going to basically bolt on the the intake and accessories to a used long block and swap it in.

if the motor in the 2000 is a AAA code you should be good to go

Great success! I found a donor short/long block:



Bolt holes, for the MKIV motor mount(?)



Good shape, crunched the front drivers strut in a bit. Motor is fine.



180 psi compression, and it has ~86K miles



Swap the MKIV head etc. and it should be a go for this VR6

Is that manual or auto? I need a pedal cluster and shift assy from it if it is manual.
