Jetta III 2.0 Clutch labor cost

Hey guys,
I have a 95 2.0 Jetta that I bought from my brother in Billings. I'm going through as I can afford it and fixing the broken stuff and the clutch is slipping really bad. If you give it really any gas at all in 2nd or 3rd it slips like crazy. I don't have the tools or experience to do it myself so how much does it generally cost to have a shop put in a clutch for a Jetta? Would it be cheaper if I got the clutch online and just had them do the install?
Thanks,
Anthony

You are probably looking at a 4-6 hour job for the clutch. Shop rates vary, but somewhere around $80 is average, so you can do the math. It would be cheaper to buy a clutch kit online, but a shop may not install hardware they didn't purchase.

How difficult is it as a DIY if I could get access to the tools and instructions on how to do it?
Thanks!

Being honest and straightforward, if you haven't done a clutch before and you don't have the tools, you should consider having someone do it. Or at least get someone with experience to help you out. As far as DIY's, do a Google search or look around on the Vortex and you should find one. It's pretty much the same process on most 8v, 16v and even VR's in all MK's.
I don't think we have a DIY on here yet...

Cool, ended up getting a friend of mine to agree to help me out that has some experience doing them (just not in a vw). Hopefully going to be ordering the new clutch kit this week! Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap clutch that should last awhile with a stock 2.0?

Most annoying part of clutch is getting the tranny axle flange around the motor/flywheel housing on install and removal. you will see what i mean when in there. 2nd hand is usually needed. I usually bench press tranny underneath while friend is lifting etc from the hood. All in all, just nuts n bolts.
Good luck
