Transmission...

Yo guys needing some input on this...

I have a 2003 GTI and my first gear is absolutely gone...I've been sitting on this car for about 8 months now waiting to get some money and I finally got it but what seems to be the problem here is I'm not sure if I should have it rebuilt or invest in a new one. I'm not sure if it's going to cost more or what. Also what else seems to be the issue is I don't think anywhere in Missoula can do it(that I can trust). From what I've found is I can get a stock one for about $1,500 or I could invest in a eurospec which is around $2,600. The car only has 80k on it and I'm a "sporty" driver and I just would like for this not to happen again. Any input or thoughts would be appreciated...

There is an 02J on craigs list for $110 in Billings. If I was you I would just pick that up and slap it in.

Unfortunately I'm working in North Dakota right now, probably won't make it back to MT until the end of Feb. And that's when I plan to fix it.

I think the 02J is just fine. I had an 03 GTi 1.8T with a KO4 and Revo tuning and had no issues.

If you only have 80k on the trans your likely beat the hell out of it. Stop speed shifting and it will last 200k...

No where. And I'm serious when I say no where in missoula. Even if they tell you they can work on it, don't trust them. Grab a bently and get to work on it by yourself.

the o2J's can be had pretty cheap, and are very common, just shop around put in a good used.
