The wagon of codes returns. 2001 2.0 AVH engine. The TSB for the ground wire has been done and rechecked for broken wires/corroded grounds. All the engine bay ground wires and points have been thoroughly checked/cleaned. Plugs and wires are little over a year old now. Wires are Karlyn/STI and plugs are Denso Double Platinums. Plugs look pretty good...probably replace them anyway with appropriate NGKs. Plug wires look tip top and maintain proper resistance via ohm meter.
Soooo...safe to say that this coil pack is toast? This would be the 3rd one since this car rolled off the factory floor (i've never changed one, just have all the dealer records). Car has approx 110k on the clock. Seems fishy that it has killed 3 coilpacks. Are they THAT bad? Actually I guess this would be the second it would have killed. Records indicate that coilpack 1 replaced, then TSB, then coilpack 2, and now this one...so they probably needlessly replaced the first one. meh.. As far as i know they were all OEM. 99% positive the current one is..TEMIC
Only other thing I can think of is the fuel pump relay (I have only heard of loosely related things pointed to this). I guess it supplies power to the ECU, so if it is faulty it supposedly can contribute to the above codes (or something along those lines). Anyone here know anything about that? It passes the click test and terminals are slightly browned and it is the older 8-pin version, but nothing really suspect about it....at first glance...guess I'd have to do some real tests on it to confirm or eliminate.
Just looking for anything else I might have missed before I go chuck $150+ at a new OEM coilpack. Sorry for the bloated post.
