Pioneer install- worse job ever. Have Q's

Okay, so I've installed three after market HUs in VWs and others and this is the worst! Two afternoons spent so far and I can't get the damn thing to power up. So either a) I'm completely flaking on something or b) this unit is DoA. I'm really hoping its a).

First off, my constant and ground pins on the Metra wiring harness are correct. So harness to harness to there. Incidentally, none of the other pins in the Metra harness line up on the Audi harness but from what I can tell, I don't need them anyway.

Secondly, I've run both separate and harness ground wires and tapped several 12v switched positions (sunroof, garage door opener, climate control, seat heaters, and cigarette lighter) in the fuse box via fuse taps with up to 60A of fuses and the HU still has no power (while everything else runs fine.)

I'm stumped. Mike said he might have some time this week to look at it but until then, any thoughts? I feel like dumbass for something I've done before... :banghead:

Just a thought...have you checked the fuse on the rear of the unit? Maybe is blown?

After that, first thing I'd do is wire it up direct to the battery and see if it lights up. Sounds like you may have already done that...

Nope. Haven't wired it direct to the battery yet and I don't see a fuse on the back of the HU. Strange huh?

What model is it? Sometimes they (Pioneer) hide a micro fuse under a tab on/under the the wiring harness.

Pull the main wiring harness out of the back of the unit, and there will be a 10A fuse right there under the connector, I bet it's blown.

BTW, I have the 3200BT and I love it. Couple of things I did that you may consider also doing - I did the ebrake bypass that allows you to watch media/DVD's while the ebrake is off - you can find the relay on eBay, or you could easily make one yourself. I also installed the BT mic into the stock spot, which is in the map/dome/sunroof panel - works pretty good and it's stealth.

This looks like a great unit- BT for streaming and phone. Yeah, I saw the fuse. It LOOKS okay, but I'll swap it out and try stuff again. I have it all wired in and put the mic in the same stock spot. I was planning on doing the ebrake bypass but hadn't made it that far yet wanting to make sure the thing powers up first. How/where'd you wire your switched 12v?

As you can expect, huge thanks to Mike who stopped by and helped for about 30 minutes. Not sure what he touched but it's all working. Thanks bro! And my goodness the BT integration with my Windows phone is strong!
