If anyone needs a "sidewinder" (aka laser-cut) key to be copied, Burdick's Locksmith in Helena can handle it. Their system can dial into VW's and copy the key. Even so, a working key is required. Their key cutter has a laser scanner on it that scans the key, sends the results to VW, which responds back with some info to cut the new key. (I don't think the laser cuts the new key, I believe a spinning cutter head does that.)

when i needed a passat key, i called appleway, no hassle no vin crap, he just said whats the vin, and whats the visa number, next day had a key!
