1990 GLI alarm system

Just picked up a mark II Jetta. I was able to jump from the battery to the starter and it fired up. However, when I use the key or try to jump the ignition, nothing.
I am wondering if the alarm system is armed or something like that. I have the auto un-lock key and can arm and disarm the system, but the ignition key doesn't engage the starter like it should. I looked at wires, grounds, etc.
What should I look at?

Under the dash for the module? I'd rip the junk out. Do you want to keep it?

I'd like to keep the alarm system if it's not too much trouble. The auto door locks are nice and I like being able to use the remote, it makes the car special

I am not a fan of relays or fuse blocks, they are too damn much. The problem I'm having with the car is not the security system. I pulled the starter relay and jumped the terminals and it will start with the key.
Any ideas about why it won't start with the relay in place?

Switch is okay since it will start with the key. I was thinking its a bad starter relay

You identify the alarm module and find a manual? How about a Bentley?

This is the circuit, the load relay. The ignition wire comes into the relay and out to the starter. I can jump the relay circuit with a wire, but, with the actual relay it will not start.

You have a seatbelt switch on the starter? Mine required the shoulder belt connected to start the car
