Some of you may remember my '77 Rabbit.

I got the 16V in.

Then ran into some wiring problems.

I couldn't get it sorted before I left for a couple year move to Boston. At a loss about the car, I talked to Aeron (Rennwagen1) about my predicament, and he graciously agreed to take it into his shop and turn it into a running and driving car, instead of the piece of garage art it has been for the last almost 3 years.

I am really bummed to not have finished the job myself. I am excited that it is in good hands and will get finished so I can enjoy it next summer.

I wanted to put this thread together to give Aeron a chance to show off his handy work and give props where they are do (or will be do soon).

So Aeron, good luck this weekend in Helena, and don't let the wiring get you to frustrated.

ps. here's the vortex link about the build.

I opened your link, right clicked on the image and got the direct address from properties. Then removed the ? at the end of it, and it posted. But there has to be an easier way.

Well, so far I have taken the 16v harness and ecu out, and re-installed it in a "cleaner" fashion. Kinda wondering why there is a Ford starter solenoid in there, but maybe it will explain itself..  I am actully really excited to work on it, I can't wait to hear that DRS motor start up for the first time, just wish that Jake was turning the key after all that time, but I guess he gets to drive it (almost) coast to coast when I am done. I will keep you guys posted. Especially you, Jake!

Solenoid as in connected to the starter housing? Not sure, that thing was kicking around the shop.?.?

Well, it is connected by a starter wire, It looks like it was mounted to the two screws that are sticking out of you rad support. At least the screws are the exact distance apart to mount it up. I'll figure it out. Maybe you had an old hott rodder that woned the car before you and figured that you can solve any starting problem with a ford starter solenoid.

I had no idea what that thing was.
Was power going through that before going to the fuse box? That could be why all power at the fuse box was going dead when the starter is engaged.

I would be for getting rid of all that isht.

Don't know if I told you that all the wiring to the fuel pump and tank sender was also cut, I spliced in factory connectors where the harness goes under the rear seat. By splice I mean just twisted the wires together..... :ninja:

Final thing, I would be up for considering a "painless wiring" solution if you think the exhisting harness is to hacked to work with.
