the car seems to drive fine....i think it might be related to the bad fuel i picked up in AZ that plugged the filter (since changed) though the CEL came on long after that plugging, but just after i filled an almost empty tank, i changed the filter again, but the light stayed on

Sounds like you need to have it scanned - I'm sure one of the guys would scan it for a 6'er. What do you drive?

Hey jbl, sorry I didn't get back to your PM about this.

We can scan your car sometime, weekends and evenings are about the only time I am free. Maybe this thursday at the Leaf&Bean GTG? Although the battery in my laptop is shot, so we will need to be near an outlet. :(

I work with a couple guys that are familiar with TDIs, so once we get the codes, they might be able to help.

The #1 cause of a check engine light, just after getting gas, with the car running good is the gas cap. Either you did not get it on all the way, something got under the seal, or the cap needs replacement.

At least 10% of the check engine lights I've scanned were for the gas cap!!!

I thought I had recieved some bad gas in Seattle one time. I left the car running, went in to pay, and came out and she was dead. Started her up and it ran like shit, went in to complain, and the desk jockey was like "whoops" and with visions of flaming them on the whoretex I started home. Ran like shit all the way to missoula. Tried a bunch of stuff myself and couldn't get it to run, so then I took it in and it turned out to be a bad MAF, which in trun burned out the o2 sensor. Moral of the story, Aeron is an idiot, with bad gas mileage. SO! back OT, check your maf!
