Iv got the fever..

Post by VR6NH »

Well, my Jetta sat in front of my house on the street for months.. untouched by my hands. If I could afford a storage unit, I would have put it in one. Anyway, today I decided to roll it across the street and pull the front seats and start cleaning.

Now I need to resolve a few issues and get the thing running. Im having serious coolant issues (as in whenever I fill the system, it drains itself within 24 hours), my shift linkage is all out of line (cant find reverse, 1st or 5th), and my ebrake cable is frozen. Any suggestions? Unfortunately I have to deal with all these issues in the street.

Lastly, a serious bath, claybar and waxing. Hopefully I can be driving it within the month.

cheers mates

How did all of that happen? I mean, did the sift linkage just tweek itself? Have you replaced the thermostat housing? I did mine maybe two years ago, and I need to do it again already. Also, you might check your "crack pipe", it is a pipe that runs near the block below the intake mani that has a reputation for cracking and needing replacing. How much coolant do you lose? Is there any left in the system at all, or does the resovior just empty? Did you have the correct coolant mixture in the car over the winter? Maybe you popped a freeze plug? I also had an ebrake cable freeze up on the drivers side, and I just disconnected it(I need to get another one sometime). LMK when you are going to be working on it, and if you want, I might be able to lend a hand if you need....

Check motor mounts for shift linkage issues. I know if the rear one is bad It will change the alignment of the rods and prevent a lot of gear changes.
