Since I had some tools and I know nothing about VW's I decided I'd just take this seat off myself and determine what the problem was.
After I figured out how to actually take the seat off (Took off the biggest bolts I could find close to the floor) I quickly discovered the cause of the seat problem. Someone decided to do the ol Gummie Bear mod to the seat rail in order to give it that custom feel. 
I still wasn't sure if they also decided to destroy the seat motor trying to move it, but luckily once the bear was gone it worked again! Of course the the rest of the seat is still not working. Worse I know that one of the motions will work if you use a connector from a different switch, so its not the motor (electrical is not my specialty, not good when owning a VW i know...). Now comes my first (but not last) stupid question. If I swap these seats out for some manual VW ones (with an air bag) will I encounter any problems with connectors/warning lights/air bags to the face? I'm just wondering if this would be more hassle then it's worth. Another option would be to disable the seat air bags and just grab manual seats, but I haven't a clue how to do that without a light going off...
