just got into a 91 golf, i cant seem to figure anything on this pig out, when i got it i replaced the cap rotor plugs and the CTS via my excellent parts discount, it needed this anyways, started it up man that ran good, next day it was comletely dead, the battery tested 700 CCA but the motor went rur----rur then it would start then die imediately, so i checked the timing liberally after a little research, the dizzy or hall sender may be crapped out?? or fuel pump in the tank?? yes it has gas before i catch any guff so i might need a 1.8 digifant dizzy and maybe a pump, any other suggestions before i go crazy and spend unecisary money??? cant seem to find any vacu leaks but i think ill replace all the crappy old hoses anyways.... so please bsvw, pimp my ride!!

ok, make sure you have all ground wires secured in the engine bay. Ground wires in volkswagen, are always coloured brown, even if it's got another colour with it, it's a ground for something. should be one on the drivers side of the intake manifold, maybe one on the valve cover with the ground strap. maybe two on the water outlet, two on the ground side of the battery, and of course grounded behind and under the battery. Make sure all of these are tight and clean....PUT YOUR HANDS ON THEM....don't just trust a visual inspection.
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
Unplug the connector on the fuel rail and see if the car starts for a second then dies.
Check the digifant brain. Remove the computer (one ten mill plastic nut), remove it from the frame it's in, remove the four screws and pull on the computer hard to get it out of the case. look for burnt circuits, most likely on the bottom, near the aluminum portion of the computer. if one of the current tracks near the aluminum is burnt, replace the whole thing, and replace the digifant relay in your fuse panel.
I've been getting alot of these lately, were just before it dies, it leaves the fuel pump running all night, flooding the motor, and draining the battery. I 've also noticed that on all of these were the computer is burnt the relay is not in any better condition.
