I'll be adding to this as I continue through the teardown and rebuild of my newly aquired Rabbit.

I haven't decided exactly what path I am going to take on the engine just yet but am always open to ideas and suggestions from any of you.

And so it begins...........

i can see progress between teh pics

ill be the first to ask. whats the plan? full out build? track car? i could see a built supercharged 16v in the bay

em kay ones FTW. X2 what k-pot says, well be watching and waiting on this one, and we all want to know what the plans are. you have an excellent starting place with a valver in the bay already! and a roll cage! and what seems to be a damn nice shell! way to start right at it!

Honestly engine-wise I haven't decided what to do just yet.
I am possibly thinking running a Lysholm and supercharge it. On the other hand maybe turbo it.
Originally I had wanted to do a 1.8t swap into the rabbit I got but wasn't expecting to get a valver with anything I was going to buy.
Hell, I really don't know.
I am even tossing around the idea of going syncro.
This is a totaly project car that I can pretty much do what I want with. I wasn't expecting to find something so fast so hadn't really thought through exactly what I want to do.
I am thinking i'll run SCCA with it so I also need to keep in mind what class it will fall under when done.
I have never worked on or around a valver so this is virgin material for me.
I will be smoothing the engine compartment and keeping it as clean as possible.
I will want to run standalone fuel management but havne't looked into options there yet.
Should have engine out by Wed.
I am planning on swappin in a MKII dash and wiring.
Not sure how I am going to roll the interior just yet but don't really care about that at this point.
Unlike my MK4 2.reliable, on this project the engine will come first.
When it's all done i'm going to go murdered out all satin black.
So there is a semi-start of plans for it.
I'd love to hear some of your guys thoughts on engine possibilities.
Tranny will be redone as well with LSD.

If you put anything other than an 8v engine in there, I believe you will end up in XP or X Prepared. There is basically no restrictions in XP. by SCCA ruling you can update/backdate engines, but since the 16V/1.8T/VR6 were never offered in the Rabbit chassis in anyway, that is where you would end up. No big deal really, but depending on where you race, you can get up against some nasty cars. BTW my race rabbit will end up in XP also......

Yeah, I figured I would fall into a harder class. That's ok though, I'd rather go up against some nasty cars than some weak ass cars. If I get beat i'd rather it be by the best

That's only because before the GTI I have a Golf 2.0 dependable. Dont' have to wrench on it! lol

I have been building cars n jeeps for many many years though.
