So a few weeks ago I realized that the gasket around the base of my antenna was cracked and now it is gone. The dealership here wants $86.00 for a new one. I found one off a Passat at a junk yard here in town so I was wondering if All MKIV VWs antennas are the same. I think they are, I know they have two different sized bases but I think one off the Passat should work if it is the right size diameter. Does any one know if this would work?
If not I guess I can look on Ebay.

It's probably cheap since it's off a junkyard. Buy it and go for it. I don't know.

Sounds like you don't have to completely remove your headliner, and because you have a hatch you should be able to work from the back and just drop it down a little.
The dealership probably wants to sell you the entire assembly, which you don't need. And stay away from the scrapyards because with a part like this you'll just end up with another rotted out part after a few years.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't want to do the junk yard. Yes the dealership wants top sell me the whole antenna, All I need is the base, so I'll look at ecs. YeaH the headliner doesn't have to come down all the way, just enough to get my hand up there and turn the nut. It takes a 22mm socket. I'll have to look at ecs and order it. Do you guys think that much water has gotten under there. I'm hoping not. We'll see how well I do at putting a new one on. My first repair attempt.

That would be awesome. All I need is the little gasket that goes under the base. I know there are two types but it is worth a try. Let me know and pm me your number and I'll either go there to get it or have some one from there bring it to Billings, appreciate it.
thanks
Matt
