That sounds like a "NO" vote on using the MK3 ABS system.
I have not decided on definitely using it, but I have the option now that I can mount the sensor and I have all the necessary parts.


Anybody else have an opinion on using the ABS system or leaving it out?

personally i would leave it out. upgrade your MC to a 22mm or 25mm master. and update your booster and you should be set...

some people choose to keep the abs though.

the MK3 abs in my GTI is flawless, I love it and it you take it out of the system, you will incure a bunch of wiring deletes that are a pain in the AZZ!
want to come inspect mine for ideas?

Thanks for the "YES" vote on the ABS, it's good to get some different opinions on this build.

I will definetly take you up on that offer to inspect the VR when I hit a snag or when opportunity presents. My in-laws live north of you in Wolf Creek and with you chauffering Kevin back and forth to Bozeman for visits...

Currently, I am trying to figure out the best way to bias the rear brakes.
As I recall Ben, you are using the MK3 load sensing proportioning valve (Correct? any other mods here?) I am keeping the Caddy rear leaf spring axle and am leaning towards remote mounting the load sensing unit and fabricating a manuall adjustment for it. I could not find a dual input aftermarket unit.
What do you think?

Depends on how much you want to spend.
I have not been looking so I do not know of anything.
But, some VR's are getting up there in years and you should be able to find something within 2 hours drive with ~100k & poor body condition for under $3k... this would have to be a good driver... subtract $ from there for any mechanical problems.
They are out there for this price.
I'll let you know if I hear of anything.

Found some time this weekend to install the new rear brake lines that loop down from the body to the center of the rear axle.

Then I put in an aftermarket rear sway bar made for the VW pickup.
Looks like it should work pretty good.
I will make the final bolt-up to the body after I get some more weight on the vehicle and get it leveled.
But, I wanted to get it in place before I run the hard lines for the rear brakes.



Next, I will fabricate the mount and adjustment for the mk3 rear biasing valve.
Once I have that in place I can run all the hard brake lines for the rear end.
Then I can put the rear wheels on it and start on the front.[/img]
