Locking Horn Inop

Post by bigmontana »

So after my trip out here my horn decided not to work everytime I lock the car. It works if I hit the horn pad, but not if I lock the car, with both the fob and the key. I'm not sure why it is doing this. Iyt started this summer when we were out in missoula, but then the problem went away, and was fine in Fargo, but again happened now. And both times the check engine light was on. I'm sure not the same problem but weird anyways. It is not crucial, but i'm weird and I like to hear the horn honk when I lock the car, especially if I'm not close to the car when I lock it. Maybe it is a false sense of security or something but anyways, does anyone know why this is. I read something about it a while ago, but can't remember where or what was wrong with it.

I'll see if some one here can scan it. I did not even think about it being a scan issue. My check engine light was on, but I don't think it is related. Thanks Aeron.

It's the door microswitch - the solder on the switch has broken over time. Mine likes to work when it's cold out, or sometimes when it's hot out. It's a hard one to get to, and it's common on the MKIV. Someone on the Vortex has a DIY on how to fix it, I'll have to see if I can find it.

Well I wasn't meaning that it has something to do with your CEL, I was merely suggesting to check your horn settings in the coding. But it sounds like Mike has it donw.

No I know you weren't, I was just telling you thank you for the advise. I was not trying to sound like a smart ass, sorry if it came off that way. Well tonight it worked. i'm wondering if it is the microswitch, because all of a sudden it works. I came accross that post on the tex one time i'll try to find it too. Let me know if you see it Mike, thanks. I need to get it scanned bad, now it is lacking power on hills and it surges on accelleration.
