Speedo/Tach just quit??? HELP!

5 spd 95 with 167k

speedo and tach just quit yesterday.
gas guage/ temp and odo still work fine.

is it the speedo sender on the tranny?
it seems weird that would disable tach as well.. .. ??
fuse? relay?
i hope it's not time for a new cluster...? ?

any info or previous experience much appreciated.

a new cluster will solve the problem i had the same thing happen on my GTI and i couldent find any thing wrong except that the speedo and tach diddent work but gas gauge and temp worked. i got mine off ebay and far as i know it is still working the only thing is that most of them are low millage so you will go from 167k to mabe 80k or you can have it rebuilt im not shure where you can have that done but i know it has to be sent out of state

SPeedo and tach use different senders, so other than both of them self destructing at the same time, the cluster is probably your culprit.
