Shops to rebuild a 16V in W. Montana?

Post by PoorHouse »

Some of you might know I sent my head off to get a rebuild, big P&P, the works this winter.

I've been staring at my high mileage short block on the stand trying to decide if I can get some more use out of it or not. I was wanting to let my wallet recover and do a serious short block build next winter. After months of contemplation I decided it doesn't make sense to put it back together just to take it apart again next year. Do it once and do it right.

Initially I was thinking I would do the build myself. But, I can't get a machine shop to even talk to me about a VW motor. Now we are running out of winter. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows a shop around W.Montana familiar with 16V rebuilds.

Needs to be someone who's built a few and knows what they are doing.

Try Jim Keck at Advanced Engines, in Helena 406-443-7467. Either he or his son Jamie can help you out. They have one of my 16vs right now, although I ran out of money to even get started once they had the short block. They know what they are doing around pretty much everything, and cna help you out. I am going from a 1.8 to a 2.0L once I get the pistons. They ahve built 2 motors for my shop (one is a 900 hp blown 468!) and one for one of my past employees. They do solid work, and if you ask really nice, he may even meet you half way on the delivery. I know he comes to Missoula once a week to pick up and drop off. Anyway, give him a try and tell him Aeron at Warrio Auto Works told you to call!
