Re: new and scared of the dub
having personally driven a cabby with an ABA bottom end, they run like stink, now all you should need is that ABA 2.0 commonly found in and mk3 golf or jetta an ABA head gasket, now the block is about 1/2 inch taller than stock so you will need an aftermarket downpipe. other than that all motor mounts will swap and it should run just fine on that CIS/ CIS_E. if you were in bozeman we could do it in about a day tops if we had everything. easy swap and welcome to the darkside.

Welcome to the dark side as well!
As B-dub said, we could do your swap in a day so too bad you're not here haha. I'm swapping a G60 with a 5spd into my fiances Rabbit Convertible within the next year or so probably so you will have to stay tuned if your swap will be a long ways out.
We'll all ask around but I'm sure someone has an ABA they would sell cheap. Shit, maybe we'll shoot up to the Zoo one day and swap it at Aerons shop, you might just have to throw a Warrior Autoworks sticker on it if we do that though!

Re: new and scared of the dub
thanks for the info, i really appreciate it. probably won't be swapping the motor for a few weeks, have to find all the parts. do you have any idea of what tranny i should use? (her's is shot). we will probably stick with the auto but we're thinking about making it a 5spd. besides a tranny is there anything else i need to get to make the project go smoothly? Thanks again.

Re: new and scared of the dub
BY ALL MEANS GO MANUAL NOW! its a very easy swap in a cabby also, youll need the tranny cables linkages rear motor mount and pedal cluster. the only modifying is cutting a small hole in the firewall for the clutch cable. you wont benefit much of that swap with an auto-tragic. plus auto;s are actually pretty hard to come by, where as the 5 speed you can use any 4-5 speed from 1974-early 1999 in most cars.they all bolt right up, you will need to know what trans it is, so you can get the correct clutch pack. your up to a two day job now

Yeah man, the 5spd swap is going to be easy! Automatic will just cause problems down the road.
My fiance wants to keep her auto too but it's not possible with the horsepower her car is gonna have.

the wife hates the auto but me and my brother-in-law thought it would be too difficult to swap it to 5spd but it doesn't actually sound that bad. thanks guys!

A built auto will handle more power than an 020 or 02A. Though its $$$$.Checkers wrote:Yeah man, the 5spd swap is going to be easy! Automatic will just cause problems down the road.
