Fender liners?? Plastic pieces that cover the engine bay??
Hey guys - I Just put the CAI on my car - and While I was doing that, I noticed that both of my fender liners were ripped on my car - thus my tire will directly spray water onto that CAI
I am looking at getting a skid plate as well, or at least a belly pan to protect my engine from debris and water.
What are some good options you guys have found??
I called the stealership - they want 38 dollars a side for the fender liners?
Good deal? I am looking on VW Vortex - Have not found anything -
Thanks =)

Junkyard for the fender liners - call them. Dieselgeek skid plate http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Categ ... kid+Plates or I hear a road sign works well too.

I plan on putting an order in with diesel geek soon (still waiting for some tax money). Skid plate, Race Pipe, & EGR Cooler Delete. If you like what you see at diesel geek, maybe we can put an order in together and split the shipping? I would think splitting the shipping would be dropped the price some. This is all dependent on when I get my $$$ from The Man of course.

yeah... road signs are the way to go.. they're very "reasonably" priced AND you get free shipping with each order!

Chris has a point. You can use a "pre filter" that is water proof, but does not affect the airflow. I suppose if you were to get a whole lot of water up there, it could potentially leak down through the top of the filter and under the pre-filter, if that makes any sense. But I guess that would just be splitting hairs comparing pre-filter/no fender liner vs. no pre-filter/fender liner. either way you would need a TON of water getting into the engine to hurt the engine.

I am interested in this Pre filter idea - And as it sits - water will directly spray from the tire onto the CAI because the fender liner has a hole in it...
So i figure -- thats not a good thing...?

You need one that has the post filter for anti hydro locking.

it is not the misting or spraying water you need to worry about, It is turning it into a straw that is the issue. Most all of the air filters are pre oiled, thus they resist water.
