I picked it up hoping to get iPod control and text read out. But my system doesn't support text read out and I already have iPod input. So instead I'm putting in a new HU that does what I want.

This is brand new, in the box and ready to go. Ships for $130ish from ECS. It'll give you iPod control and crystal clear sound from your iPod into your stock Bose/Symphony HU headunit.
