Before the weather got shitty last night Spencer (my son) helped my vac out the back, pull out the 1 remaining rear seat belt and then I sprayed it down with the pressure washer - sprayed out all the bees nests in the engine plenum, blasted most of the lichen off, and washed up one corner of the pastel white with some Meg's soap. Turns out the upper paint is in decent shape luckily so a little more cleanup and a buff and it should be good. The front glass seal leaks pretty bad though, so I may end up replacing that sooner than later, and that usually comes with a little bit of body work to fix the rust under the windshield.

Still I'm lucky that's all there is to do. So next is to POR-15 the front floor and get the mat back in there an cleanup the cab so I can get the front seats back in. A little silicone around the seal should help keep the water out.

I still want to get back to the OG (Original German) paint so may try a trick I saw on The Samba to remove a layer of non-OG paint...oven cleaner

Anyway, progress is good.

Edit, good news - I fixed the way that rear engine hatch closes by adjusting and setting the lid catch the correct way in the rollers and now it closes like a dream. I found myself opening and closing it just to enjoy how well it opens and closes and latches (thanks to Jason )

Would oven cleaner not also eat up the paint underneath?
One of my buddies here does autobody work, I'll ask him if he knows any tricks.

Ok so upon further research and reading on The Samba apparently Graffiti remover will strip paint, but not harm OG paint. So I picked some up for later. Jason I'd be interested in what your buddy has to suggest

This weekend between helping Matt with replacing his steering rack I was able to cleaned up, prep and lay a coat of POR-15 on the cab and the cargo area. I also coated some spots under the cab that are know to rust. Pics are on Matt's camera so he should post them up here soon.

OH word, thank you. No worries, I probably won't do a whole lot with the exterior until I get the interior put back together and and engine.

A couple of updates there: I decided to do some sound deadening, so I ordered some FatMat material for the interior panels. It was hard to pass up for the price, and I figure I have the interior out for now so I may as well do it so I don't feel like I am driving an empty soda can down the road. I'm gonna get the materials to fix and use the OG interior panels tomorrow.

And I finally found a motor in Bozeman - I'll be up probably on Sunday to get it. Found a 2L FI motor with all the fixings that I can put in. I love CL.

Mike, sorry I missed you. I was in town with the boss and couldn't get away on Monday night. Then I had to lay a guy off on Tuesday and didn't get back to Helena till late that night. Not the fun part of my job. I should be down your way in the next month or so. We'll try again then.
