im curious to see what this 020 can take, its obviously bionic to say the least anything above 250 whp, is incredible, mine still works, but days before i tore into her again, i can tell it was reaching SMS syndrome, (self machining syndrome) with 300whp on 3-4-5 gear pulls, guys strip the teeth right off of them, and or twist the case enough to explode it internally. granted if you arent racing on it etc, i can see how one could hold out for a while.

the 020 can take alot more in the upper rpm range, I am seeing peek boost in 4k rpm and up, stays around 10psi to 18psi in the 3k's, if it maxed in the 3k zone like many set up for it would ripe gears, I had 2nd rip with a t-3, an 02m is in the future but not sure when, I have a Quaife diff and ARP bolt kit, so no SMS for me, I would say I tested the 020 at it's limit though and plane to keep boost under 30psi, seems to pull hard enough around 25psi, kind of scary at that level, it's not a heavy car at all, it's fast enough for now!

im guessing your right around 2150 with that car, mine is perfectly 2000.00 with me and a full tank, yup even the ounces zeroed, not planned just worked out that way. with a supercharger and more fuel components and what not, you should be 2150-2200, and yes that is feather weight for sure!

that's about what I guessed on my weight 2150, I also have a full SS custom rad support too though, cut out the OE support and welded up a home brew, they crack anyway!

OK! so it's a done deal, I just bought a 94 Jetta ABA 2.0 with "41k miles" for $400 plus shipping, $250 from Palmetto, Georgia, there's an all VW wreaking yard that had it up on eBay, yep!....that's right eBay! verified CarFax mileage of 41k run tested and inspected with 120 day warranty and company stock number plus eBay sale # and PayPal buyer protection to ensure I get the vary motor I paid for, Absolute German was going to just pick one out that looked "OK" and wouldn't tell me mileage, they had one that said low miles advertised, but would only say (quote) "it's probably gone" not much customer service if you ask me! and wouldn't give me a strait shipping answer ether, guess it was to close to a long weekend and didn't care, anyway! so the ball is rolling, I thinking of going with JE pistons and IE con-rod combo deal from IE! the stronger 2618 T6 aluminum alloy piston sounds like the shiz! and can be coated top and sides but cost extra, unless someone can tell me why Wössner 4032 pistons would be better for my app? price is the same both ways except the Wössner comes with side coating, the JE pistons would cost $100 extra for side coating, or are there any other options?

also considering a main bearing girdle, any idea what HP it's recommended to get one? or would ARP main studs cover this weak little boost job Haltech only covers 30psi

I have been thinking about an exoskeleton brace for the 020 trans to reduce flex, from looking at the 02a then 02m I can see where they keep increasing the support to the case design, it would stand to make sense that the gears strip from flexing out of tolerance and increase pressure to the outer edge of the gears, I plan to install it during this rebuild to the motor, I will keep up some pix as I build it if anyone is interested, should be a good test bed! if it works I might have a new product option for high hp builds instead of sourcing a 02m and all the work and parts to install one in a older chassis, or for 02a as well, if this doesn't work, that will be my next adventure, any input on this would be welcome!

Still won't fix the fact that an 02m is 3 shafts, versus the 020,02a,02j, etc, 2 shaft design.

never seen the inside of a 02m, good to know! found some good deals already for 02m trans, one with 38k for $1200 or 60k for $700, but need shifting cables and shifter plus clutch pedal solution, then build mounts and hole new clutch and flywheel as well, gets spendy quick!

in Brazil they are putting over 600hp through 020s and 02As with forged internals, kinda noisy though they say

Yeah, ive been following yours and some other guys' thread on vortex, they are running crazy power through 020;s down there, and they are running dog conversion kits, i.e. straight cut, i dont think i could handle that noise! i guess it wouldnt be louder than an 8V with 45 PSI going through it! would love to see if you come up with anything!

my new engine showed up today, tore it down and it checked out awesome! no boring needed, no ridge in the cylinders, everything is tight! has forged crank and piston squirters, I also got the BBM IM shaft custom timing gear and dizzy thing thing, I found a good deal on Pauter I beam rod's for $600, normally 7 hundred something, supposed to be stronger than H beam type, anybody have some input on theses?
