Trying to decide the future of a 92 GTI

I thrashed the last couple days to get this thing ready for an autocross. I put in new axles, new rear brakes and bearings, and a little overhaul on the short shifter kit. I drove it around for a day and it ran great. Needs an alignment and a new exhaust, but other than that it seemed fine.

My wife pulles into the staging lane at the autocross and it starts flooding really bad. We fought with it for a few runs each to see how it handles then gave up and jumped in the reliable little Honda to finish the day. The GTi handled terrible. I definitely need to figure out the issues with the suspension. I just am not sure about this platform. It does not feel nearly as nice as my Scirocco. I really like the power advantage over the 8 valve, but I keep picturing this engine and brake package stuffed in my Mk 1. I think I might try to set the alignment a little better and maybe whip up some lower stress bars like I have on my other cars. I don't really know what I will end up doing with this thing. Sometimes I really wish I could concentrate on just one car at a time.

The problem with selling it now is the parts are worth more to me than the car would be to anyone else. I am thinking about selling the coilovers that are on it and going to race springs and adjustable shocks. If anyone is interested in H&R coilovers, I think they are ultralows, that will fit golf II,III/Jetta II, IIIs let me know. I will check the part number to make sure of the model they are. As it sits now it is too low in my opinion.

On the running issue I was wondering if these old cars will show a datastream on VAG-COM. I haven't much experience with early VW injection so this is going to be a sharp learning curve. I can pull codes, but there are not any stored. A data stream would be nice, but I don't know if its an option.

I was also wondering about sources for buying a VAG-COM and what people would recommend. My scan tool works on the newer ones, but I don't have the adapter for older ones.

mk2s are getting scarce in these pasts esp 16v,s i dont think it will ever handle like a scirocco, but ive seen and driven great at autocross with an 8v mk2 golf with a a spring kit. no stress bars it can be had!

Here is a picture of the heavy pig in action. It doesn't look like it has massive body roll. I think I will start with bushings, lower stress bar, and a better alignment. After that I think it will be springs and struts.
Of course this is all based on getting it to run right again.

Another thought: Those coil-overs are probably 10+ years old, the dampers may be shot.
