*Insert Favorite Swearword String* Coilpacks

Post by Mill3niumThr33 »

Welp I changed my engine oil after work today and said "By golly my engine bay is dirty" . So I hopped over to the wash bay and coated my engine in degreaser making sure to cover the battery and coilpack with plastic. Well I started power washing and heard my engine start misfiring and bucking. So I pulled off my makeshift covers and saw my coilpack grounding from at least 3 cracks!!! :finger: :wasted: :puke: :smoke: . I air hosed the sun-of-beech off and then drove it to try to dry it out some more.....No Dice. It bucks and misfires like crazy from 1k-2.8k then it smooths out. I can even see it doing it in my driveway right now at idle.

Options - By new coilpack...500$

JB Weld said Son-Of-Beech coilpack...3.49$

So I am looking for anyone who has done this procedure or anyone that wants to help me do it tommorow. Its supposedly an hour to take it off and jbweld it then let it dry over night. There will be beer involved for any takers.

JB weld it - it's still a good coilpack, it's just cracked. VW's should be salvageable. Same thing happened to my Stepdads F150 with the 5.4V8 - they were $95 each...but a different design, so JB weld wouldn't work. Glad I have a 2.0 :ninja:

Should be the brick style pack - you have 12V VR6 right Wade? New coil pack on 1stvwparts.com is $530 - ECS has them listed for $500. JB weld is ~$3

wow.just.wow

That's a lot of coin for some cracked plastic!

JB it and then paint it - we will call it the "Wade Mod" :unibrow:

Yea its got the brick style pack. I can see it arcing from 2 cracks on the pack. I can hear it pretty well in the car when it does it also :puke: . Now that we got our new house and the garage is empty me thinks the pickle is going to sit in the garage with no coilpack for a weekend to think about what it did.

I had this happen to my 97 a while back. my coillpack was only like $300, but it still suckeeeed. Mine woould only do it if it was wet out, so I got away with a bad one for a while, but still had to change it.

Wade, I just had a thought.
We have some stuff (goo) at work that is made for encapsulating electronics.
If you remove the coil we could squirt some of it in there.
